Retailers can't keep up with the transition to the digital ruble

The use of the digital ruble in retail is being proposed to be allowed from July 1, 2025, but retailers are asking for two years to prepare, Izvestia reports

Banks also have problems due to high costs for preparing infrastructure. Costs can range from ₽85M to ₽200M. By July 1, 2025, the 13 largest banks must provide infrastructure for digital ruble transactions

Banks with a universal license must be ready by July 1, 2026, and those with a basic license—by July 1, 2027. Banks that fail to connect will be fined, Elvira Nabiullina stated
